The 2006 SYOC Awards
IABC/BC and Strategic Connections Inc. are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2006 Student Communicator of the Year (SCOY) awards. Diana McKenzie and Sara Bearchell, both IABC/BC student members, have been named 2006 Student Communicators of the Year. Along with the distinction, the recipients have each been awarded $500 scholarships.
Diana, a recent graduate of the University of British Columbia's Political Science program, won for her entry in the employee communications category. In addition to being a skilled communicator, Diana is currently working in Ecuador over the summer, where she is part of an international student volunteer group who are working on a biological conservation project with the Charles Darwin Foundation. Diana is also a member of the Leaders of Tomorrow and the Red Cross organizations.
Sara's award-winning entry was based on a work plan and samples showing her involvement in developing successful external communications for a local municipality. Sara, a Communications student at Simon Fraser University (SFU), is also a participant in SFU's Co-operative Education Program. She is said to be a "jump in with both feet" style communicator, who will graduate from SFU this upcoming Fall to pursue a career in communications.
